The environment is our home. We have many environments that we live in, from macro to micro; body to the earth, and beyond. This is the main reason that I enjoy making art out of as many “recyclable” materials as possible. Recycling is a core value that I hold. Plastic and Styrofoam are some of my favorite materials to use, especially since they come in so many different shapes, sizes, forms, textures, sheers, and colors. Acrylics, polishes, and strategic embellishment can easily transform these materials into imaginative works of art. I find that the end results are as glamourous as I want them to be! In my opinion, these materials tend to be the most accessible, inspiring, relatable, and fulfilling in order to express my message. It makes me feel good. 🌎
I’ve learned that most “recyclable” materials are not actually recycled, and end up in landfills anyway despite efforts to do the right thing. I was absolutely crushed to find out how trash and even recycled materials were shipped overseas to become problems for impoverished nations to deal with. Being the change I wish to see in the world, I will continue to create out of these materials for secondary and tertiary purposes. It is a win-win situation. ♻️
In this way, I am also able to inspire by making it obvious to viewers (including myself) how things were made and put together. When there are ‘holes’ in the process, its nice to see where our inspiration can fill in the blank. 🎨
